SARA BUYS A MORRIS!

Sara-Jane Jordan has bought a 1933 Morris Minor Tourer ...so? Well, Sara is one of the younger drivers taking part in the Classic Car Loan Project, sponsored by Peter James Insurance.

Sara is currently in possession of A Ford Model A loaned to her as part of the project, being run by long-time enthusiast Bob Wilkinson.

She says: "I was fortunate to be selected to have the 1929 Ford Model A Phaeton (Tourer) for the year. I was handed the keys and did my first drive of this lovely older classic at The British Motor Museum in April. The owner, Peter Garrett from Birmingham, had put up the car for loan through the scheme run by Bob.

“Having the Model A has been an amazing experience and a wonderful challenge too. I have done the usual picnic runs with friends and attended shows including the Old Ford Rally at Gaydon where I met numerous other Model A owners. The car creates great interest wherever I go.

“I did have to use the recovery service on one hot day as the heat had affected the ignition. A new coil and condenser has cured that issue. I was pleased to have the recovery included in the classic car insurance provided by Peter James Insurance as part of the sponsorship within the project.
“Driving and looking after the Model A Ford made me determined to buy an older classic ...hence the 1933 Minor. I was aware that the Morris needed work and I am currently sorting out the mechanical brakes, fitting a new clutch and painting the chassis. All will be sorted by next spring when I have to hand back the Ford."

Project manager Bob Wilkinson said: "Without the loan car experience Sara may not have considered buying an older classic. I hope that the other cars currently on loan (Morgan, Vauxhall Victor, Austin Maestro) have the same influence. We need the next generation to get involved in the movement. The project group will grow to about a dozen cars next year, giving a great opportunity to new classic enthusiasts."

Peter James added: “What fantastic news – and a sure sign that the Classic Car Loan Project is doing exactly what it was designed to do – introduce and encourage newcomers to the world of classic car motoring.” Project details from Bob on bobwilkinson49@hotmail.co.uk
