An Icon: Fascinating Facts about the Marvellous Mini

Engineering, Fashion & Celebrity Following

The original Mini was designed by the visionary engineer Sir Alec Issigonis to fill a need from the general public for a small and economical car. Proving popular, the Mini went on to win 1964 Monte Carlo Rally and was owned by some big names – The Beatles, Steve McQueen, Mick Jagger and even Enzo Ferrari!

A limited edition was produced in 1988 to celebrate Mary Quant – the fashion designer credited with designing the mini skirt. With 2000 units produced (1,000 in black and 1,000 in white), the car featured unique black and white striped interior trim and Daisy branded badges (Quant’s signature) as well as customized steering wheels.

Breaking Records and Speed Limits

On 28th March 2007, Blackpool became the site of a record-breaking achievement when 269 classic and modern Minis formed the longest convoy recognised by Guinness World Records. A sight that stopped traffic and made headlines worldwide.

Much earlier than that though…Sir Stirling Moss was once caught speeding in a Mini in 1961!

FAQs

Do you offer free agreed value for my classic Mini?

Yes, we do, simply let us know the value you’d like to agree when you speak to our team. It must be reasonable, and we won’t agree to an unprecedented value on a car unless it’s really special and you can explain why. Alternatively, we can work with an agreed value supplied to us, for example by a classic car club that you’re a member of.

Do you offer laid-up cover?

Yes. Our laid–up cover accounts for the change in risk for a car that is to be laid up for a long time. For example, if you are now planning an extended period of storage or even a major restoration that might take you the best part of a year. Laid up cover can save you some money whilst also ensuring the car is fully protected and covered while the work or storage continues.

How much will it cost to insure my classic Mini?

Insuring your classic Mini car is cheaper than you may think and can be less than standard car insurance. Reach out to our friendly team today to receive your quote.
